The comfortable and enveloping Suoni executive chair is the choice of Sia Benten in Latvia

The CEO of Sia Benten Teamwork, a team of Payments industry professionals that supports the sustainable development of their clients’s business, chose one of the most iconic and famous executive office chair manufactured by Vaghi through the help of La Mercanti team.

This Italian brand, as many others represented by La Mercanti, gained a position on the national and international markets over the years, becoming a reference company in the domain of office chairs.
In accordance with the best Italian tradition, the artisanal care is combined with refined design and the most advanced technological research in order to maximize customer satisfaction. Suoni is an elegant, large and wraparound executive chair. The design combines with the finest craftmanship: the high sculpted back and gently curving contours enhance the seating comfort. It is available fully upholstered or with a rosewood veneered outer back. Our client preferred the second option, to highlight the contrast between the softness of the front leather upholstery and the warm of the wooden finishing of the shell.

Moreover, the profile of this chair can be customized with contrasting fabrics or colours and he chose the dark grey leather color with a white edge. A simple detail that makes all the difference. The base on wheels is in aluminium and the advanced pivoting tilting mechanism guarantees a superior level of comfort. In a fusion of classic and contemporary style, Suoni is considered a stand-alone statement piece to enhance any executive area and define the hierarchy. An iconic office chair.

Innovative surfaces with digital technology

Wood-Skin is an innovative Italian startup of architects, engineers and designers, founded in 2013 to address the need to create complex shapes for the built environment and design in a simple and cheap way.

Today, Wood-Skin is a company with an international patent that ships worldwide. It is a brand that offers innovative systems for architecture using digital production technologies through the use of digital material which is a synthesis of two wooden layers and a textile central layer. The software engraves the three-dimensional surfaces creating the desired geometries which are then joined to fabric hinges to recreate the same configuration as the digital drawing without using heavy and expensive structures.

The result is masterpieces of creativity and dynamism. Flat and rigid wooden plates can be moved and bent into three-dimensional shapes according to the predefined design. Rigid surfaces are made flexible and flat surfaces three-dimensional so they acquire volume e dynamism and even the most characteristic and inventive ideas can come true at a low price. One of the main values at Wood-Skin is the ability to evolve, change shape and take on a new life through changing configurations over time.

The Wood-Skin product was originally designed for wood (birch and okumè plywood, mdf) but today it also includes other materials such as aluminium, HPL laminates and synthetic felt. Below are the products that are currently made using the Wood-skin digital technique:

Fold Panels are 3D panels with intriguing shapes, constructed in a rectangular or square module surrounded by a strong aluminium frame that maintains the shape and makes the installation on walls and ceilings easier. Fold panels are a new type of covering that can be installed on different surfaces such as walls, ceilings, banisters, counters etc.

Mesh Panels offer a new way of designing curved, wavy and free-shape surfaces from flat sheets. Thanks to variable sizes of the pieces, the radius of curvature can get considerably narrow while maintaining its fluidity. A lot of configurations can be achieved by combining the type of texture (Basic, Classic, Decor, Digital) with the type and size of the facetings. This technology allows the construction of elegant membranes with the same look, impression and functional properties as light and flexible materials such as paper and fabric.

Tailor Made Surfaces are ‘sandwich’ sheets with variable material on the two outer sides and a textile core with high resistance. These surfaces are tailor-made to create unique products for specific projects.

In addition to innovation, Wood-Skin strongly believes in the value of sustainability and its goals include supporting local production and manufacturing, using local resources, avoiding long-distance shipments and reducing CO2 emissions.

Kitchen is the most complex and fascinating room at home, the place where cuisine and conviviality, the ancestral elements of fire and water, high-performance materials and cutting-edge technologies all merge into one.

An integrated design that redefines traditional volumes, communicating the language of the architectural space. A transversal system that is divided into various collections in favour of a fluid interconnection between the rooms, in order to respond to a design concept of a “La Mercanti home”.

Science tells us that a coffee break is good for your productivity

A survey of European workers has revealed that workplace coffee drinking habits are shaped by time, taste, and the desire for a productivity boost: one out of three workers say they’re too busy at work to take a coffee break. The paradox in all this is that the very driver promoting focus and productivity is linked to the act of switching off, taking a short break, maybe even to grab an espresso coffee.

Roel Vaessen, Secretary General of ISIC, said: “Coffee’s often associated with the workplace, whether that’s in an office setting or on the factory floor. We wanted to understand more about workers’ relationship with coffee, given that there is some very interesting scientific research looking at the associations between caffeine, cognitive function, alertness and concentration.”

Cafeterias were regarded as a place outside the workplace until a few years ago. Now, with the development of increasingly worker-friendly workspaces, they’re being integrated into the office layout in all the modern office spaces: you’re increasingly likely to come across an open-plan space for chilling out as you get your espresso coffee.

Extensive research has shown that caffeine consumption is associated with an increase in alertness, concentration and performance. Many people will have seen first-hand the widespread custom of coffee in the workplace, whether in an
office setting, or in scenarios such as shift work in factories or hospitals. Coffee breaks are an ingrained part of work culture, and the phrase ‘taking a coffee break’ can be synonymous with taking a short period of time away from work to
chat with colleagues, clear one’s head or simply have some downtime.

It’s no longer a secret just how big an effect coffee typically has in kick-starting the brain, refreshing our focus, and on all those other things that help us feel switched on, as it were. Today coffee areas are designed with comfortable and design seating armchairs and sofas with modular tables furniture systems to create a place where you can still work, but in comfort, as well as read, unwind for a moment or have a quick catch-up, providing everything you need to perform your office duties.

Across every country, on average, coffee was the drink most closely associated with productivity, with 43% choosing it over other caffeinated and non-caffeinated options. Professor Peters noted this in the roundtable discussion, suggesting that having
work breaks with a reward (i.e. coffee) may improve wellbeing and productivity. Italians were most likely to say that coffee made them more productive at work (56%). Overall, respondents selected short breaks as being most likely to improve their productivity (63%). Finns were the biggest proponents of short breaks (75%), compared to just 53% of Dutch respondents.

The chair and the space that perfectly suite your needs

It’s easy to say that the greater the level of comfort that a worker enjoys, regardless of their position, the harder they are likely to work. There are times when smart working becomes a necessity for companies, like in this delicate period of COVID-19 emergency facing us all: the right ergonomic office chair became an issue in that case too.

One of the central issues for anyone in a modern office, especially in recent years, is office chair comfort, by which we mean both the physical workplace – which has to be as comfortable as possible – and the environment in terms of health.

Spending many hours working in one position inevitably has implications linked to the proper handling of fatigue, especially when it comes to dealing with stress on the spine.

Preventing overloading or avoiding incorrect posture, therefore, should be an absolute priority to avoid injury.

If you are lucky enough to have a comfort home office, you probably use a design office chair and the right kind of executive desk for your needs. It isn’t always possible though. You often find yourself working in unsuitable places like on the sofa, in an armchair, at the kitchen table or even in bed.

To avoid back and joint pain, try and find the correct work position. Adapt your seating, maybe with the help of some firm cushions, and keep your upper body as straight as you can. Alternate periods of working standing up and sitting down to improve circulation and avoid straining your back too much.

A green office too, full of plants, wood, natural light and windows looking out over the outside world is a current office design trend. The bond between nature and a healthy workplace has now been certified by a growing number of studies, to the extent that North European companies are now adopting the habit of calling walk-and-talk meetings in the open air on sunny days or in an urban green space.

Try to stay in contact with colleagues during working hours and also friends and family for the rest of the day. It will improve your mood too!

Take Your Dog To Work Day

Research in UK has revealed that having your pet with you at work improves mood and proactivity, lowers stress, and promotes dynamic relationships with co-workers, improving the office climate. In 1999, the Pet Sitters International association founded the world Take Your Dog To Work Day.

Take Your Dog To Work Day has been covered by media outlets in various countries. Many celebrities, companies and government officials have also posted about the day on social media, including Liam Hemsworth, Barack Obama, Ben & Jerry’s and the MLB.

Dogs have been man’s best friend far back into pre-history when they became domesticated by choosing to live and work alongside mankind. From the very beginning, they worked alongside us, hunting and tracking and even keeping us safe at night by growling and barking when danger reared its ugly head.

Every office has their own specific company rules and regulations surrounding bringing your pet to work. However, there are also some more general rules of conduct that apply across the board: from having your pet microchipped and in possession of documents showing that they’re up to date with vaccinations and in good health.

What are the advantages of bringing your pet to work? You can keep a constant eye on them, they will develop bonds with fellow animals and other employees, and will lighten the workflow without affecting productivity. Having the dog with you may allow you to interact with your coworkers in a whole new way, as the dog is a great icebreaker. Pitch that idea of promoting better communication and teamwork to your boss, and you may convince him or her to allow you to have Fido sitting next to your desk, celebrating this holiday.

Take your dog to work with you! This doesn’t mean you leave them in the car to cook in the midmorning sun, the puppy should spend the whole day with you by your side. If your work doesn’t have a Take Your Dog To Work Day organized, you can be the one to spearhead this idea and help bring some doggie goodness to your office.

Did You Know…
… that in ancient China, royals would carry little dogs in their sleeves to keep warm?

The executive modern office desks: made in Italy news

The new executive office furniture collections have been presented at Orgatec in Cologne, at Salone del Mobile in Milan (and soon at NeoCon in Chicago), ready to interpret different design environments and brand new design proposals. From the world of management were born projects oriented towards comfort and maximum versatility.

Elite by Las Mobili: Executive collection where the worktop integrates with the structural base which also has a storage function. The only finishing features are the tops and doors of the drawer unit. A functional workstation embellished by wall panelling with shelves and optional LED lighting.

Euclideo by i4Mariani: A desk that goes beyond the function, becoming a real sculpture, a privileged piece, a physical presence. It is Euclideo, design Ferruccio Laviani: it is the evolution of the executive system towards a contemporary concept of furniture that is less tied to the traditional iconography of this functional typology. “It is the combination of two volumes that gives life, on one hand, to the work surface in contrast to the cabinet, deputy as container.

Lay by Archiutti: flexible, dynamic, informal, sharing. Lay is meant to fit the multiple and contemporaneous ways of living the working space. The light and firm lines, the technical aspects and the use of colors meet the individual need of characterizing its own environment. A strong personality project positioning resolutely towards the research of quality of materials and aesthetic of products. The U joint is the visual and structural hub of the system, crossing point of two diagonals and distinguishing element of multiple configurations. Realized in die cast aluminium, it is available in multiple colors. A complete furnishing program for the different working spaces (operative, meeting, executive and break). Multiple configurations can be created choosing among details, colors and modules that make the office space essential, coherent and pleasant.
